If you have not yet decided, we will analyse your requirements and then discuss a solution with you. Reasoned recommendation for one of these two online shop systems.

WooCommerce: advantages and disadvantages

WooCommerce only works in conjunction with WordPressas WooCommerce "only" a plugin is. The integration into WordPress is therefore very good. This also results in an important advantage: WooCommerce can be integrated very well into a WordPress website - this applies to both the visual appearance and the technology.

WooCommerce is in the Standard not very extensive. However, you should work with additional plugins to create the desired customised functionality. The selection of plugins is again almost unlimited. This is initially a great advantage, but the risk of installing problematic plug-ins is not insignificant. On the other hand, there is already a solution for almost every requirement - free of charge or for little money.

Numerous external applications (e.g. a merchandise management system or another marketplace) can be connected via several interfaces provided by WooCommerce (REST API, WebHooks). However, connecting two systems is always a challenge in terms of subsequent maintenance. WooCommerce and the plugins used are developing very quickly, which can increase the effort required to customise these interfaces.

Shopware: advantages and disadvantages

Shopware is a German development and therefore very well adapted to the German market.
If you have purchased the Professional version for a one-off fee of €2,495, you will receive telephone support for the first 12 months. The Starter Edition is available permanently free of charge. However, it does not include Shopware support.

The Range of functions of Shopware is much greater than with WooCommerce. This means you can create a legally compliant online shop without extra extensions. Multilingualism, customer groups (B2C, B2B) or legally compliant checkout are possible without a plugin. This is good for technical security and legally compliant use in the EU.

Due to the wide range of Shopware functions, the first steps for beginners are not as easy as with WooCommerce. The later Administration of products, orders and legal texts is much easier with WooCommerce or WordPress. Experience has shown that our training courses take twice as long with Shopware as with WooCommerce.

We recommend the use of Shopware as an online shop if either the product catalogue contains more than 10,000 products or an external application (in particular merchandise management) and the product and order management is not to be carried out from Shopware.
